This week is a final week of this month. I knew that many of companies had to call me, if they wanted me to work with them. Of course, I thought correctly. I had two companies to call me. But I was necessary to reject them, because I have been waiting an answer from a bank. I could not work with any company, because if once day, a bank will call me, I will not be able to refuse these companies to return to work with a bank. I knew that I have already gotten a job from a bank. But my problem is a position. I am afraid that if I will not get a teller, I may not accept other position. Because it may get less salary. However I have no choice right now. I accepted to refuse two companies to wait a job from a bank. when I think carefully, I think working with a bank is better than general companies. if I look at in long time. Although Thai economic is good or not, a bank can still run a business. Because new laws are stress. I am not necessary to be nervous about this. However if I work with general company, once day Thai economic slow drown. I slow drown also. At that time, I will be arduous. Then what I can do is that I have waited an answer and accept it, if I will not get a position as a teller. And I have to find a new job again.

It is a wonderful week, before I will take tests at Standard Chartered Bank

For this week, I got great emails of my friends both Korean people and Japanese people. They made me happy, because I have never thought that I got their email. In my opinion, most guys do not like to email. I think wrong. They emailed me. Oh my God Oh my God, I felt that I was lucky. I liked to get emails and chatting so much, because I felt not lonely or alone. I miss my friend so much. Sometimes I looked at pictures that I took with them in U.S.A. and thought that it probably did not occur. I feel to suffer. I hope that I will get a lot of emails from my friends and be able to chat with them. Please don’t forget me……..my friend. Besides, this week I had a great chance to chat with friends by Msn such as Mih….., Min…., and Cho……. Wowwwwww it was a wonderful week for me. Thank you and thank you and thank you soooooooo much my friend to help an old girl like me to live continually. I would like my friends to keep in touch with me forever. But sometimes my friends might not think like me. They may feel so-so with me.

In addition while I am writing this essay, I listen to music also. The radio opened music very well. I think after I will complete this essay, I am going to read English book to prepare myself for tests that will have on tomorrow. Sometimes I think about these tests, I feel excited. I would like these tests to pass well. Additional, my brother called me to ask about my tests. He thought that I had already taken tests. I said with him that tomorrow is a date that I will take them. I told him that I will wait a result of tests before. Afterward I will call him again.

Anyway, today is June 24, 2006. It is a date, before I will take tests at Standard Chartered Bank. I quite got up late. After I took a shower and brushed my teeth, I went to the mall in order to check my face. Many of weeks ago my face had pimples. Although they were not much, they made me nervous also. Right now my face is better. I am very happy. Okay, after I completed here, I went to another mall to buy T-shirt for my mum. I am going to intend that I will give it to her in national mum date on August 12. Wow……. A great idea ha ha……. I wanted to surprise her. Anyway actually, I took my text books to read at the mall, but when I was there, I felt that I did not concentrate to read them. So saddddddd, I just drank a cool coffee and I got home. I felt that I was relaxed after I bought T-shirt to her. However I used to read an article about benefits of shopping. According to this article, shopping helps human being’s mind relaxed. I think it is true. After I bought two T-shirts for my mum and myself, I walked around the mall and I decided to get home. Two T-shirts, that I bought, are similar style but different size. Mum’s shirt is S size. My shirt is XS size. At that time, I thought that I still have many of things to do in my room such as cleaning room, ironing clothes for tomorrow, and reading English books. These were my reasons that I decided to get home quickly.

For my new job, I would like to get this job very much, because it helps me to be able to study Master degree. Why do I think like this? Because this company is a huge company, sometimes I can go back U.S.A. to study and when I will finish the education, I will be able to work at here. This is my idea. Finally, before I quit this essay, I hope that I can do every thing well and I try to do my best. This is a wonderful week for me.

My life in Thailand

When we are an adult, we all have to work. I am a person who is finding a job after I decided that I was not ready to study in U.S.A in this time. So I have a lot of things to practice in Thailand. When I came back Thailand, in the first of time, I got two companies that are terrible. I was necessary to find a new job again. Today I would like to write why I decided to find a new job and some reasons made me not be able to get a job.

For the first company that I worked, it was a company to do business about Japanese food and cracker. I worked here only two weeks, after I quited it. My reason was that it was very risk for me to have to try to help this company to avoid a tax. In Thailand an accountant have had to be responsible for doing account with a business owner. That is that I have to be responsible for what I did in this company 50%. In addition, this company worked on Saturday. I did not want to work this day, because in every weekend, I spent time to read textbooks. At that time, I thought that it was not convenient for me also. After I quited this company on Monday, I got a new job on Friday. I started a new company in next week. For the second company, I worked about one month. After I decided to quit. My reason was that this company could not make any profit. No income and no the future, I thought that this company could not get income, because this company did not have marketing strategy. In the first time I decided to work with this company, because a business owner is an abroad person. I could practice my English and work together. Actually, my English is improved better. My mind is terrible. At that time, I has many companies to want to interview me. I had two companies to deny me, because my English was not good and I requested a high salary. From this lesson, I knew that if I applied a job with Thai owner, they could not accept my high salary. And if I applied a job with some adroad companies, sometimes I could not get a job. A cause is that if they wanted me to contact customers by telephone, I could not. My listening and speaking is not good enough that communicate with them. However, in some companies, I could work with them, if I did not contact with customers. I just spoke within a company. I could do it. After this situation, I had Thai company to want to interview me. For this company, it was very huge company. an owner have had a lot of factories both Thailand and China. However, this company reduced my salary. Reason is that food in a factory is cheap and this company had buses for picking up officers. At that time, I was necessary to accept it by reasoning that next year, I will be a manager instead of my boss who interviewed me, because she will work in China all year. It was very interesting for me. Next, I had one company to interview me. Right now, they are considering other in order to compare me. However, for this company, I have to find someone who guaranties me. I did not want anyone to guaranty me. I did not want to bother other. So I thought that I will deny them, if they will call me again. In addition, I had Japanese company to call me. This company wanted me to take account tests. I went there to take account tests. I could pass these tests. My score is 73 and 34 ,while scores that they accepted is 70 and 30 from 100 point and 50 point. I will remain interviewing with Japanese owner. My problem is that I may not be able to pass interviewing. For this company, if I can get a job from them, I will get a high salary. My dream......... After I had another company to interview me. I went there to take a test and interviewed. They was complaisant in myself much, but it had one thing that I might not be able to get this job. That was that I requested high salary. At that time, I did not care, because I knew that I got a job from a huge bank. For a huge bank, it is changing my life, because my position is not an accountant. During time, I have to take a test in order to choose my position. If I get high score, my position is a teller and this position is high salary. On the other hand if I get low score, my position is an administer. So from today to next Friday, I have to prepare myself for this test. Today, I am lucky to know that they will take me three sections such as Mathematics , English, and General knowledge. I will prepare myself for two sections that are Mathematics and English. For Mathematics, I read GMAT and For English, I read tense and if-clause, because from my experience, most companies often take a test about tense and if-clause. Finally, I hope that I will be able to pass it.

My Friend “Sa”

In Thailand

Today, I would like to talk about my Thai friend. Her name is “Sa”. I have known her for six to seven years. We studied together at a university. She is one of close friends. At that time, I closed with everyone in my group, because everyone in my group stayed in my room on every saturday night. We did a lot of homeworks and research papers together. Especially, in period of time near an exam date, I remembered that my room nearly did not have space to walk, because both my friends in my group about 4 persons and friends in class about 4....persons needed to stay in my room. Do you confuse about this? ha ha Okay… I tell you that my university was very far from Bangkok about thirteen kilometers. Then if my friends stayed in my room, they were not tired with touring. About my friend who her name is “Sa” I just very close her, when my company is near her company. We often made appointment to dinner together and sometimes, I called her to consult about my job. In addition, she and another friend who her name is “A” sent me at an airport, when I went to U.S.A. After Eight months later, I needed to come back Thailand to practice listening and to study GMAT. In the first time, I did not tell her that I came back Thailand, because my flight arrived on midnight. I did not want to bother my friend and I thought that it was dangerous time for them. Anyway, in next date, I called her. We talked together. At that time, although I could find a dormitory, I could not stay in my room. Because an original renter did not move out, I decided to ask her that is it possible that I will stay with her about one week? She said that “Okay”. In addition, she asked me about my job. I said that I made appointment with the Baptist to interview but I do not know that I will get job in there or not. She said that she has known a German guy. Now he wants someone to work with his company. If I do not care about a salary, she can find a job to me. I said that I do not care about that. I want to practice English and hurry to go back U.S.A. most quickly. This is my purpose. She listened to me and said okay. Finally, I would like to thank this friend for her help both a place and new job.^^^ Thank you for a long relationship between her and me. Besides, I really would like her to read this. I would like her to know about thing that is in my mind. Thank you so much my friend ^^^^^^

The conflict, problem, and solution Between Wal-Mart and small businesses

By Kung

After I read several articles about Wal-Mart, I found that most articles often prohibit it or mention it negatively, while I think that Wal-Mart business is not terrible at all. According to the article by Wikipedia, (2006, par. 3), "A 2005 study by Global Insight, the world's largest economics organization, that was commissioned by Wal-Mart found that the company has had a positive net economic impact on the U.S. economy. From 1985-2004, Wal-Mart ‘can be associated with a cumulative decline of 9.1% in food-at-home prices, a 4.2% decline in commodities (goods) prices, and a 3.1% decline in overall consumer prices’ and, that this has saved consumers $263 billion in that time frame ($ 2,329 per household). Also in that time period, it is responsible for the creation of 210,000 net jobs for the economy. The study indicates that ‘nominal wages are 2.2% lower, but given that consumer prices are 3.1% lower, real disposable income is 0.9% higher than it would have been in a world without Wal-Mart’”. To be exact, Wal-Mart is very important to the macro-economic system. In other words, Wal-Mart is becoming the U.S.' s representative by making trade internationally, because at the present, Wal-Mart is expanding its business out of the country, to Canada, the United Kingdom, China, South Korea, and so on. So we try imagining that if the U.S. had not had Wal-Mart, the U.S. would have not been able to compete in trade with other countries. In Wal-Mart’s international investment sector, it helps the U.S.’s economy fare better. Then it is pretty good, if the U.S. has trade leaders such as Wal-Mart. Besides, I think that Wal-Mart is one of the U.S. trade leaders. However, Wal-Mart is the biggest discount retail department store in the U.S.A. and in the world (Wikipedia, 2006). and is considered to be one of the big box stores. Wal-Mart is full of diverse merchandise, such as grocery goods, medicines, electronic goods, and so on. It is stated that Wal-Mart emphasizes selling a full line of both grocery products and non-grocery products like general supercenters (Wikipedia, 2006). The many causes of the conflict between Wal-Mart and small businesses come from its marketing and pricing strategies. Its pricing strategy is that offering cheaper product prices than local shops. Then, it results in small businesses in many areas were closed, because they could not compete in pricing strategy with a big box store like Wal-Mart. In the marketing strategy section, Wal-Mart wants to distribute merchandise and to spread its customer base to raise profitability. As a result, it wants to expand its business to small towns. According to the article by DollarDays International, after DollarDays International surveyed about the effect of opening Wal-Mart in local area, it showed that small retail owners are still concerned and likely to forbid locating Wal-Mart in a community, because they think that whenever Wal-Mart sets up in their city, their business will get affected immediately. Likewise, Aligail Goldman stated in her article about the concerns of small businesses in Inglewood that Wal-Mart has faced numerous battles from local small businesses (Goldman, 2006). Then the expansion of Wal-Mart around the U.S. and abroad results in small businesses to banning it more and more.

I became interested in the Wal-Mart prohibition problem in several local areas, because I think that Wal-Mart helps to increase the U.S. economy’s overall productivity, consumer purchasing power, and employment rate. I am considering the nation’s public benefit, and customers, who are most people. In my attention, I would like both Wal-Mart and small businesses to be able to do business smoothly or have the fewest problems, because both of them are a part of the economic system. If both of them can make business without a problem, it may make the G.D.P. of the U.S. better than in the present. Finally, a big box store, Wal-Mart, should carefully think about the business expansive policies that do not affect local small businesses.

Wal-Mart should use seven strategies to resolve the conflict between Wal-Mart and small businesses.

First of all, this should be done to be the first activity that Wal-Mart needs to do in order to create a great attitude among the public. That is the public relations in a community on television, radio, advertising and web site about activities that are useful to the society and communities; however, actually, I know that at present, Wal-Mart has been doing these. According to the article by Wikipedia, in 2004, Wal-Mart donated more than US$ 170 million to non-profit organizations. In 2005 Wal-Mart donated $2 million to the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, and $15 million to the Bush-Clinton Hurricane Katrina Fund (2005). But I think that these were still very little, when I compare with a net income of US $10.3 billion in 2005. It can be summarized that Wal-Mart just donated approximately 0.17% of its net income in 2005. I would like Wal-Mart to help the local government to create the necessary infrastructure to a community more such as building roads, donating garbage trucks, and school buses. In building roads and donating garbage trucks, I would like people in communities to feel that Wal-Mart regards the welfare of people in the community and in donating school buses, I would like parents to feel that Wal-Mart regards the welfare of their children. Besides, in my reason, I would like local people to feel good about Wal-Mart. I do not want to people to feel that Wal-Mart is only the receiver from selling its products. If Wal-Mart can give good things to communities, there is a greater chance that people won’t ban it. Another example about creating relationship between Wal-Mart and businesses is that both Wal-Mart and businesses should have the campaign to help the society together in order to create a good relationship with each other. An example of this campaign is that both of them may cooperate to give scholarships to students in communities. It helps to create a good relationship among Wal-Mart, small businesses and local people. Besides, it helps to reduce the Wal-Mart banning campaigns of local people and small businesses. Whenever everyone feels good, it is easy for Wal-Mart to operate its business.

Second, Wal-Mart should cooperate with local small business to make business together. I think that it is difficult for Wal-Mart and local small businesses cooperate, because it conflicts people’s sense. However, in my opinion, both of them can work together, if the Chamber of Commerce in that area cooperates by functioning to be an agent to both of them in order that both local small businesses and customers do not want to ban Wal-Mart. As a result, both of them can get the high profit together. For example, they should advertise together in the period of time that is different in order to reduce the prohibition of local small businesses. In other words, local small businesses should feel that they do not have pressure from a big box. According to Mestas, two supermarkets, Rocky Ford and McClain's Super Market, were closed last year, because they could not sell merchandise, after Wal-Mart opened in La Junta Colorado (2005). This is a problem that has been found in other places in the U.S. and it causes Wal-Mart's prohibition. However if both of them could have cooperated, local small businesses such as Rocky Ford and McClain would not have closed their business. On the other hand, in this point of view, the government should not overlook them either, because it may be the cause of trade monopoly.

Third, Wal-Mart should target the characteristics of clear customer target groups. Wal-Mart should have different customer target from small businesses in order to reduce the prohibition problem. According to Gerson, "Many small-business owners have responded enthusiastically to the overtures, a striking contrast to a frequently heard criticism that if the retail giant enters New York it would be detrimental to commerce in the city" (1998, par. 2). Also, opening Wal-Mart in small towns results in competition with each other between Wal-Mart and local small businesses, because they have same customer target groups. Then if they can separate customer target groups, Wal-Mart will not be forbidden to enter by local small businesses. For instance, Wal-Mart may have a policy to emphasize the customer group which has a low salary, while local small business should emphasize a customer group who has a high salary and wants better goods quality. In addition it is easy to make the sale promotion, because Wal-Mart knows its customer target group certainly. I think that when both of them have different customer target groups, various problems do not occur.

Fourth, Wal-Mart should arrange different kinds of merchandise. The difference of merchandise helps customers be able to choose goods to follow their desire. As a result, both Wal-Mart and local small businesses can sell their merchandise. In other words, it helps to reduce competition with each other. According to an article "Worried about Wal-Mart plans for third supercenter brings protests" by Edgemon (2005), businesses that got affected much were food retailers, because they could not compete in goods price with the mega-retail store such as Wal-Mart. Then food retailers might have a high opportunity to be closed. However, if Wal-Mart arranges kinds of merchandise that are different from food retailers, this problem would not happen. In addition, food retail businesses would not be closed.

Fifth, Wal-Mart should do the research to know local people and local small business owner’s needs exactly. For example, in a survey, it may help Wal-Mart learn that local people want to have the Wal-Mart, but they want it to be small, because they want to conserve the culture of the community. Then Wal-Mart may set up its business in a small size that is not prohibited by a local people or local small businesses. According to the president of the New York Statewide Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, Frank Garcia, who has duties to take care these small businesses, claimed that Wal-Mart should not do its business in a community where he was taking care, because it affected small businesses and local people (Gerson, 1998). It means that it is not only small businesses but also other organizations that are involved with small business that wants to ban it. I think that the research is likely to help every group that is involved with War-Mart not to want its prohibition, because most research is made to discover the needs of people, particularly, people who are involved with that matter.

Sixth, Wal-Mart should adapt its size to be smaller. I found that most small businesses are concerned with its huge size, because its wide area can contain vast quantities of merchandise, while small business areas are smaller. Then most customers prefer to go to Wal-Mart. As a result, small businesses are closed. According to Sager, ".........And that's after Wal-Mart's been around for five years. Losing four small stores might be a big blow out in Palookaville, USA, but not in the big city, where competition constantly breeds winners and losers” (2005 para. 12). Then if Wal-Mart reduces its size, it may make small businesses feel better, because usually, a big size of anything has results for an individual’s mind. Then reducing Wal-Mart’s size is similar to reducing the concern of small businesses also.

Seventh, Wal-Mart should share some space both inside and outside of its store to arrange selling area for small businesses. Of course, it contrasts with people’s feeling. However, in my opinion, if Wal-Mart decides to do this, it will result in small businesses feeling that Wal-Mart did not set up to destroy their small businesses. In the same time, Wal-Mart still helps them have more product distribution places. For instance, Wal-Mart’s inside space, it should have some areas for selling local production of small businesses in order to help small businesses to be able to operate their business and to be able to create the convenience for customers. In outside areas, I think that Wal-Mart should arrange some car park zone to be a zone where small businesses can take their product to sell. A kind of merchandises may be similar to inside area, because I would like small businesses to feel that a big box store such as Wal-Mart opens a chance for them in making business together. In my opinion, sometimes, Wal-Mart should accept to cut some areas to create a good relationship with small businesses. Besides, I think that customers will feel better also.

From reading Wal-Mart’s articles, I found that most problems are Wal-Mart’s opening prohibition in a community; however, we can not stop the opening of Wal-Mart. Then both Wal-Mart and small businesses should turn back to think about how they can make business under this crisis.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

DollarDays International (2005, July 25). I would like to know how Wal-Mart could run its business so that it is not despised and banned by local small business. Besides, to be exact, Wal-Mart is important to the macro-economic system. This means that if the U.S. does not have Wal-Mart, the U.S. can not compete in trade with other countries. However, Wal-Mart is the biggest discount retail department store in the U.S.A., and is considered to be one of the big boxes. In addition, Wal-Mart is full of diverse merchandise, such as grocery goods, medicines, electronic goods, and so on. The most important thing is that it has a cheaper price than local shops. Several reasons that Wal-Mart wants to expand its business are wanting the distribution of merchandise and spreading its customer base to increase their profit. Likewise, Abigail Goldman stated in her article about the concern of small businesses in Inglewood that Wal-Mart has faced numerous battles from local small businesses (Goldman, 2006). In addition, according to Barbaro (2005), stated people very concern about the Wal-Mart’s film that was trying to present many products to hope to attract to high income customer group. Finally, a big box, Wal-Mart, should think about expansive business policies that do not affect local small businesses.

I plan on writing about five ways to resolve the battle problem of Wal-Mart and local small business.

First of all, Wal-Mart should cooperate with local small business to make business together. I think that if Wal-Mart and local small businesses cooperate, it will make their business more smooth. In addition, local customers will not want to ban Wal-Mart. As a result both of them will get the high profit together. For example, they should advertise together in the period of time that is different in order to reduce the prohibition of local small businesses. In other words, local small businesses should feel that they do not have pressure from a big box. However in this point, the government should look at them also, because it may be the cause of trade monopoly. Another example is that they should have the campaign to help the society together in order to create a good relationship with each other. An example of this campaign is that both of them may cooperate to give scholarships to students in a community. It will help to create a good relationship among Wal-Mart, small businesses and local people. When everyone feels good, it is easy for Wal-Mart to operate its business.

Second, Wal-Mart should arrange the characteristics of clear customer target groups. For instance, Wal-Mart may have a policy to emphasize the customer group who has a low salary, while local small business should emphasize a customer group who has a high salary and wants better goods quality. In addition it is easy to make the sale promotion, because Wal-Mart know its target group more certainly. In other words, it helps to reduce competition with each other.

Fourth, Wal-Mart should do the research to know local people and local small business owners’ needs exactly. For example, in a survey, it may help Wal-Mart learn that local people want Wal-Mart, but want it to be small, because they want to conserve the culture of the community. According to Kaiser, “ People around here like the small-town feel, but they also like their Wal-Mart—they just don’t want to see it getting any bigger. So they’re putting up a fierce fight against Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s proposal to build a new supercenter on local farmland” (2003, par. 3). Then Wal-Mart may set up its business in a small size that is not prohibited by a local people or local small businesses. In addition, it results in Wal-Mart running their business more smoothly.

Finally, Wal-Mart should change the fashion strategy to attract to high income customer by presenting the new fashion that closes people’s need in that area, because it has a high opportunity to succeed. Whenever people accept a new fashion, it is time that Wal-Mart can extend a different line of fashion.

From reading Wal-Mart’s articles, I found that most problems are Wal-Mart’s opening prohibition in a community; however, we can not stop the opening of Wal-Mart. Then we should turn back to think about how we can make business under this crisis.

Reference:
Barbaro, M. (2005, Nov. 1). A new weapon for Wal-Mart: a war room. Right now this company wants to expand its business throughout the U.S.A. Some cities accept the entering of Wal-Mart but others do not want Wal-Mart to establish itself in their city, especially in a rural city. Those are several reasons that people resist Wal-Mart. First of all, people want to conserve their town, because they want their town to have its original condition. In other words, they do not want to change a town from a local town to a huge shopping center. Second, in creating Wal-Mart they need to use a lot of space, because these towns are small towns which are full of farmland. Then if Wal-Mart is established here, people are afraid that their land which is farmland, will be sold to Wal-Mart. Third, people are afraid their small business will be ruined by the Wal-Mart business. Finally, Wal-Mart wants to expand its superstore to occupy many cities, because Wal-Mart wants to serve as many customers as possible. Wal-Mart expansion results in the occurrence of changing both life style of people in that city and the city condition, from a rural city to a business city which depends on only a big company.

In my opinion, Wal-Mart expansion in rural cities results in changing much,
but at the same time it gives great things to a rural city. These are my reasons to support creating Wal-Mart.

First of all, exactly, Wal-Mart has ruined original condition of areas where it is created, but it creates income to people in this area. Because Wal-Mart is a business that consists of a lot of officers, Wal-Mart needs to employ people to work more. Then I think that people are likely to have a better life, since most people get jobs from Wal-Mart.

Second, Wal-Mart uses a lot of space in creating its superstore. Then during the time that creates Wal-Mart super discount store, I think that house construction businesses can make money, because Wal-Mart has to order a lot of material from construction businesses. In addition, construction businesses receive a lot of work. As a result people in this rural city are employed more.

Third, the arrival of Wal-Mart results in small businesses in rural cities having to close their business such as a grocery shop, a photo shop, and an electronic shop. Because Wal-Mart’s goods have lower price than these shops. As a result it is popular for people to buy something in Wal-Mart. Then small businesses in local towns are closed, because no one buys their goods. But if we look at the macro economics, we find that the economics in this city are better. Because most people work at Wal-Mart, they get money to buy something more.

Finally, small business owners develop their business more, because they have to
compete with Wal-Mart. As a result, there may occur a kind of new business that is different from the original business.

In conclusion, I think that it is difficult to stop Wal-Mart expansion. Besides, in my idea, everything has both an advantage and an disadvantage. Then the local government supports creating Wal-Mart. At the same time, the local government should have a measurement that is able to control it also.

Reference:
Kaiser, E. (2003, July 12). Then DollarDays International, which is a wholesaler to small businesses, decided on a survey about this effect and published books that are called “The Secrets of Retailing, Or How to Beat Wal-Mart” in order to present ways that help small retail owners to survive this crisis. In the article, the author presents easy ways to be used to compete with big box retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart. That is providing personalized customer service and reducing goods price. Another way that helps small businesses survive is skill in owner’s administration. However, in the survey, they found that there were strategies to help small businesses in maintaining market share such as cutting goods prices, increasing goods, and increasing advertising. Finally, this book was a book that business owners should not overlook.

In my opinion, the Wal-Mart crisis affects both small businesses and wholesalers. Then wholesalers such as Dollardays International have to protect small businesses to survive, both for themselves and for small businesses. I agree with creating Wal-Mart in a community because it results in changing the community. These are ways to change business running in a community to compete with big box retailers.

First, small business owners should provide personalized customer service and reduce goods prices. I think if Wal-Mart did not think to open their business in a community, small business owners would still serve customers by the same way and a lot of goods would still be more expensive than they should be, because they did not have competitor. Then these small businesses belong to oligopoly in the area. After Wal-Mart arrives, it make business owners find that service and price policy can make them compete with Wal-Mart. Besides, finally customers are the ones who get the highest benefit from this crisis.

Second, small business owners should try to advertise more. For example, in the past, small business may not have its own advertising. Then to survive they try to think about how their goods are known to customers. As result in one part of starting new businesses, that is advertising businesses and marketing businesses. Marketing businesses help small businesses to distribute goods to markets. Then we found that fighting of small business to survive results in employing other businesses.

Finally, small business owners should emphasize quality more, because most of Wal-Mart’s goods are lower quality than these of small business. Then customers can choose to buy more goods. For example, if we want to set up a party, something that we want to buy is likely to be sold at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is full of things that have low price and are suitable to use in a party. On the other hand, if we want to buy something to use in our house permanently, we may choose to buy it in a small shop instead of Wal-Mart.

In conclusion, we can not stop the setting of Wal-Mart in a community. So we should choose to fight with it.

Reference:
DollarDays International (2005, July 25). After Wal-Mart decided to expand a branch in Inglewood, the company was backed by the local government. However the local government worried that it would affect small businesses in the area and the neighboring community. While a councilman, Ralph Franklin, thought that big stores in the area should include space together to be able to compete with Wal-Mart. In other words, these stores can create a selling point to attract customers. In addition the author gave an example about a law in Los Angeles that proposed a Wal-Mart expansion control measurement.

In my opinion, almost every government and every business owner worries about Wal-Mart’s expansion, because it affects jobs, salary, and small businesses. Then most people back this measure. Actually, it is similar with every city where Wal-Mart invests. I have the idea to support Wal-Mart’s expansion and these are my reason :

First, I want competition to occur in the economic system between Wal-Mart and small local businesses. In a free market, competition of producers helps the economic system to have more strength. As a result, the macro economic system of the nation grows highly. I mean that competition of businesses within the nation results in economic growth. When the nation’s economic growth is better, it shows that people in the nation live well also. Besides, the nation can compete internationally.

Second, I want to motivate small businesses to create new innovations or services to compete with supercenters. Then creating Wal-Mart in rural areas helps to motivate small businesses. As a result it brings new goods and a kind of service in the market. For example, local bakery shops, now try to make cakes to differ from Wal-Mart to create a selling point to attract customers. If there were not Wal-Mart, they would not think of a new kind of cake. In addition customs can choose to buy more enormous goods. On competition, it makes business owners not stop having ideas or not stop developing his goods and services. In this article, the Los Angeles measure proposed that small businesses in the area should work together to be able to compete with Wal-Mart (Goldman, 2006). I think that it is a good idea, because when small businesses work together more, it make them to be able to compete with Wal-Mart.

Finally, I want local customers to get the highest benefit from buying goods, because the goods price is cheap. It means sellers in the market compete each other to present the best price to customers. Of course, Wal-Mart expansion ruins or affects small businesses in an area. But if we look at another side, customers who are most people are likely to get more satisfied from getting lower price and good services.

In conclusion, I still support Wal-Mart expansion to create competition within an area and to support the economic growth.

Reference:
Goldman, A. If we don’t improve the public transportation well, it impacts the economic system, lifestyle and the environment. On the other hand, many improvement ways that are used, still to require spending lots of money. In other words, the local government’s improvement policies emphasize using money. According to M. Johnson, (2005, p 1), “diesel fuel price increase was considered to be another solution, after the world’s diesel fuel price is high.” And according to US. Fed. News (2005, p 1), “senators approve the transportation improvement bill and it consisted of transportation funds that are gotten to buying new buses and to repairing old buses.” Then both high fuel costs and a bill for the improvement of public transportation affect the public transportation system and the lifestyle of most New Yorkers. The effect of high fuel costs is high fares. As a result, the local government uses more money in the budget to solve this problem. The bill helps the local government to plan the environment transportation system and security for developing highways, to approve buying new buses, to repair old buses and highways, to fix up stations, to upgrade highways and to do fuel research. In addition, the local government still improves the public transportation by building traffic volume, roads and bridges. According to J. Post (2004 p.1) “ New York State’s commitment to highway work zone safety has resulted in declining numbers of motor vehicle crashes in NYSDOT work zones, despite increases in traffic volumes and the number of road and bridge improvement projects. However, crashes, injuries and fatalities in work zones continue to be a concern.” I think public transportation improvement project is a good project, but why do we still see accident problems? In sum it is the way to improve public transportation, isn’t it? While in a part of train station system improvement, the local government wants to improve itself with newer trains, better facilities, service, and additional express service. According to the office of the governor (2001, p.1), “The announcement stems from a new agreement between MTA Metro-North Railroad and NJ TRANSIT to offer the residents who utilize the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines with newer trains, enhanced facilities, more frequent service, and additional express service.” It is another way to improve this transportation, but in my opinion, it has something to be interested. That is improving the public transportation by emphasizing the conservative concept. Besides, I still find that hybrid-electric bus use can help to improve the public transportation system. According to Electric Drive Transportation Association (2005, p. 1) “….the rebuild and renew New York Transportation Bond Act of 2005 funds with existing/programmed Federal and local funds will provide for the purchase of approximately 250 hybrid-electric buses.” Then local government offices have to spend a lot of money in buying them. Finally, I read that the proposed FY 2003-2007 Public Transportation Improvement Program is written by Illinois Department of Transportation. This proposal emphasizes the purchase and rehabilitation of buses.

In my opinion, I want to present the improvement of the public transportation system in New York, as a conservative concept. Why do I present this concept? Because there are ways to improve to save money so that we can use this money to develop a country’s other part. In other words, I want to present improvement ways that provide the most money. In addition, they are improvement ways indirectly. I think there are many ways to solve or improve this system in the long term.

First, we should turn back to using natural gas, because it is cheaper than diesel and gasoline and it helps to reduce air pollution and to not release carbon dioxide and the greenhouse gas. Significantly, it can be domestically produced in the country. As a result it is not necessary for the government to buy fuel from abroad. Besides we can use natural gas longer than diesel or gasoline. Then the government can save a lot of money in the budget to have to pay for fuel. In other words, they can use this money partly to develop other parts of the country. In addition, natural gas still helps the government to reduce the loss of trade balance with other countries; however, the local government should campaign people to understand about using natural gas so that the local government does not experience problem, with the opposition of people.

Another way is the government should campaign to reduce automobile quantities because I find that the local government still improves the public transportation system by building roads and bridges. I think it is a general way to be used for improving the public transportation system in every country in the world. But my opinion, how many roads and bridges will we have to build? I think the more the government approves the building of roads and bridges. The more the environment is ruined. I mean the world is hotter. Is its cause a number of cars to increase more and more every day? As a result roads and bridges are destroyed more. If we can reduce automobile quantities, it will not be necessary for the government to share the budget for developing the public transportation system or maybe share the budget less. I think we are likely to increase the car tax to control the number of cars? It may be not the transportation system improvement way directly but for my idea, this way helps to improve the system indirectly. Increasing car tax helps people to consider buying a car carefully. When the government increases the car tax, people are encouraged to buy car less. As a result, a number of cars on roads and bridges is less and it is not necessary for the government to hurry to improve roads and bridges.

Next, the local government should support people to work in the same area between their house and their office, to reduce traveling between their house and their office. According to The Governor (2001) “the government wants to improve newer trains, enhanced facilities, better and express service.” Besides, I still found an article “Governor Unveils Plan To Improve Commuter Transit Services” and a book “FY 2003-2007 Proposed Public Transportation Improvement Program” that advocated improving public transportation in New York and Illinois by buying buses and hybrid-electric buses and rehabilitating old buses. The above issues are ways that improve public transportation system directly and the government has to pay a lot of money to buy and repair them. Do we have other ways to improve this system by using money a little bit? I think improving by repairing newer trains and buses, enhanced facilities, better and express service, and buying new buses are another good ways, but if the local government supports people to work in same area between their house and their office to reduce traveling between their house and their office, I think it is a good solution because it reduces cost. According to the office of the Governor (2001, p.1) “Governor George E. Paaki today announced a new $122 million initiative that will provide the residents of Rockland and Orange Counties with improved commuter rail service.” That is that the government can save $ 122 million in improving commuter rail service or to pay less. How can the local government support it? The local government supports companies about a tax. For example, the local government approves an extra tax law that reduces an amount of money that companies have to pay to the government, if they get employees who live in company’s same areas to reduce to their traveling. When people travel less, the transportation system remains good longer. As a result, the local government pays for improving less. In addition, the local government should instill in people the desire to walk near their home. For example, the local government may support refunding money that people pay in tax each year. Then both companies and people feel that working next to one’s home has good result to them and for the society.

To sum up, the improvement of public transportation in New York that I argue for are ways to save money and to have the high possibility of performing. In my opinion, the conservative concept is ways to help to save the government’s money and to help to keep the environment.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

Electric Drive Transportation Association. Then many countries are worried with this nuclear tests because it affects both environment and people around the world. As a result, the government agents and organization’s officers have to debate this action. This is nuclear testing ’s effects and the government agents’s argument.

According to T. Batt (2002, p.1), “A resumption of nuclear tests in Nevada might spur other countries to start testing their own nuclear weapons, Von Hippel said.” These countries want to test nuclear weapons without considering the effects that result for people in this area. Then environmental groups argue that these countries should stop nuclear testing by issuing various effects both to people and environment.

According to T. Batt (2002, p.1), “Peggy May Johnson, executive director of the Nevada environmental group Citizen Alert, opposes an accelerated schedule for nuclear testing because of concerns about Southern Nevada’s groundwater… Citizen Alert issued a report in January charging the federal government is not adequately tracking contamination of the region’s groundwater from previous nuclear tests.” Another problem is groundwater effect that the Southern Nevada government is very interested in because it affects not only people, animals and plants under water in Nevada but also people, animals and plants in other areas that water flows though.

In addition L. Davidson, (2004) stated that the Utah government is worried about nuclear testing that leads to diseases such as cancer to humans. For example, people in Cedar City have to suffer to spread nuclear radiation. As a result, they get skin cancers and melanomas. (Gubler 2004). These effects result in the government having to pay lots of money to keep people and environment excepting lots of money to be used to produce nuclear weapons.

Then right now we should turn back to consider again whether we should test nuclear weapons or not. According to B. Evenson in the Salt lake (2004, p. 6), “We don’t need tests to develop new nuclear weapons. There are more than 1,000 good reasons that back up this point. The United States generated a warehouse of information when it carried out 1,030 nuclear tests over nearly 50 years.” Then countries around the world should argue with countries that want to test nuclear weapons to stop this action.

To sum up, nuclear testing result in negative effect more that positive effect both human being and ecosystem. Then all of us should not overlook it and supporting government agents and organizations ’s officers issues are another way that we can help our society.

The Immigration in Thailand

In Thailand, most foreigners want to come to Thailand for several reasons such as for an education, making business, and getting married. Then immigration officers in Thailand must pass immigration rules to keep Thai people's rights. According to Banpote Kittiweera in His article "Thailand ruling out foreigner? New immigration rues from July, 2004" stated that if foreign husbands want to look after a Thai wife, they have to perform Thai regulations. First, they must married legally and they have to make a certain amount of money per month. In addition they must have money in the bank account. Second, they have to provide evidence such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, evidence of husband's financial situation, a letter to show his work status, work permit and evidence from the husband's Embassy. Finally, every three to six months, an officer will check their states to prove that they have a certain relationship.

In my opinion, the immigration officers should perform this to keep Thai people's benefit. It is very good for the Thai people because they feel that they have more self-confidence. In a foreign husband's part, when they want to get married with a Thai person, they should have enough financial status to take care their family.

The Improvement of Public Transportation in New York

Research Paper Proposal
I was interested in the improvement of public transportation in New York, because it is the infrastructure system that affects most New Yorkers. Then both high fuel costs and a bill for the improvement of public transportation affect the public transportation system and the lifestyle of most New Yorkers. The effect of high fuel costs is high fares. As a result, the local government uses more money in the budget to solve this problem, and in the public transportation sector, the local government issues various policies such as increasing fares, cutting some activities or reprogramming some projects, giving up staff and delaying fuel cost spending. According to US Fed. News (2005), in their article, Senators Schumer and Clinton secured millions of federal dollars in a transportation bill for Rochester; it stated that senators approve the transportation improvement bill and it consisted of transportation funds. The bill helps the local government to plan the environment transportation system and security for developing highways, to approve buying new buses, to repair old buses and high ways, to fix up stations, to upgrade highways and to do fuel research. Finally, both bill for improvement of public transportation and the high fuel cost solution is useful for local people, because they get comfort in traveling quickly and safely and New York’s economic system grows better as well as having less air pollution, because repaired old buses and new buses result in purer astrosphere.

I think that the solution of high fuel costs and the approval of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill for improving the public transportation in New York solves problems in the short term, but they are not solutions that come from causes of problems. Actually we should solve these problems before they happen or solve these problems in the long term. In my opinion there are two ways to solve these problems in the long term.

First, we turn back to using natural gas, because it is cheaper than diesel and gasoline. It helps to reduce air pollution because it releases carbon dioxide and the greenhouse gas. In addition, natural gas still helps the government to reduce the loss of trade balance with other countries.

Another way is the government should campaign to reduce automobile quantities. If we can reduce automobile quantities, it will not be necessary for the government to share the budget for developing the public transportation system or maybe share the budget less. Besides, the local government should support people to work in same area as their house to reduce these problems about traveling between their house and their office. I think it is a solution because it reduces costs.
I think all the solutions are ways to save money and to have the high possibility in performing.

Reference:
Johnson, M. As a result, it is not necessary for pay to buy fuel from abroad. I think using natural gas instead of diesel and gasoline is the solution in the long term because if fuel cost is high, it will not impact the public transportation system. Then the public transportation department will not find that it is necessary to increase fares. New Yorkers can use the service of the public transportation at a low price and New Yorkers’ health will be good, because natural gas is safer than diesel gasoline.

Second, the local government should campaign to reduce automobile quantities. If we can reduce automobile quantities, it will not be necessary for the local government to have to share the budget for developing the public transportation system or maybe share the budget less, because the road condition will not be ruined by automobile’s weight. The local government will not find it necessary to upgrade highways or will be able to save money from the budget about transportation system improvement. Besides, the roads will have less automobile quantities; as a result, the environmental condition is better. In other words, the air pollution problem is less because it is without smoke from automobiles. I think reducing automobile quantities is better than approving the transportation improvement bill because it is solving air pollution problems before they take places, while approving the transportation improvement bill is solving problems after they take places.

Finally, the local government should support people working in same area as their house, to reduce travel between their house and their office, because this way helps the local government indirectly. That is the local government can save money in developing the transportation system. In addition, I think it helps New Yorkers to save money related to about fuel costs.

In conclusion, I think three ways that improve the public transportation in New York are ways to improve the public transportation in the long time and use lower costs.

Reference:
Johnson, M.(2005, Oct. 19). SCHUMER, CLINTON SECURE MILLIONS OF FEDERAL DOLLARS IN TRANSPORTATION BILL FOR ROCHESTER

According to this article, senators had the Conference Committee approve the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill. This bill consists of transportation funds that help researchers to plan the environment, transportation system and security for developing highways and New York State’s transit systems. In this bill, the local government approved buying new buses, repairing old buses and highways, fixing up stations, upgrading highways, and having fuel research also. Then they are good things for New Yorkers because they get good opportunities to be able to travel quickly and safely and their business extends across the state and a high local economic growth and in this fuel research project result in low fuel costs and better environment. Finally, the local
government connects transportation systems to build comfort in traveling to people. In conclusion, this bill is useful for both local people and New York’s economic growth.

In my opinion, this bill helps the local government, local people, New York’s economic growth and the environment in New York very much. In the government section, this bill helps the local government’s work much. For example, I think when the transportation system is good, it reduces the number of accidents on roads that cause traffic problems. The number of traffic police can be decreased. In addition, with respect to people, this bill helps people travel comfortably and fast. For example, the connection between the airport and train station and ferry station results in people’s saving time and saving fuel. In addition, it helps to develop the New York’s economic system because it is convenient to transfer goods from one place to another place. In other words, it helps to save time and money to business owns. As a result the New York’s economy system grows. Finally, this bill helps to solve the environment problem, because the government builds many transportation systems in nearby areas. They result in a decrease of use of fuel energy and helps purity the atmosphere.

In conclusion I think the good transportation system is very necessary for a big city like New York that the government has to try to develop continually.

Reference
US Fed. Then the mass transit system is hurrying to cope with this problem, because it tends to fuel costs continually. Ways are used to solve this problem as following: the local government uses money in the budget to support the problem, increases fares for local routes, proposes more fare per ride fuel surcharge and cuts some activities or reprograms some projects. In addition, in parts of the mass transit systems have policies to give up staff and delay fuel cost spending.

In conclusion, we should find a solution to this problem for both the government and the mass transit systems because fuel costs are high continually.

In my opinion, this problem occurs with every country around the world and affects both the government and people. As for the in high fuel cost solution, I agree with the government’s policies. I think the government’s budget helps people who use the transportation system to pay less money.

In addition, a fare increase for local routes is not too much. As a result the government has enough money to pay the high fuel costs or reduce this problem, Cutting some activities or improving some projects are very important things because they help make the situation better. I think the public transportation system should always check whether activities are proper or not and try to improve activities. Because if we check before and hurry to improve them, I think it help the government to reduce its costs. Besides the government should campaign to use natural gas buses to reduce this problem. I think this is a good solution because it helps the government to solve this problem in the long term and it still helps to reduce the environmental problem. Then it will not be necessary for the government to buy fuel or may buy less than in the past.

In conclusion, this problem is a big problem that every government in the U.S.A. should recognize such and should find ways to solve continually both during normal situations and in serious situations as at present.

Reference:
Johnson, M. It was causes by the blazing of fossil fuels and substances as well as human's deforestation. From this situation, it is forecasted that it will result in rotten environmental problems as following:

First, New Yorkers will get sick much from respiratory diseases such as asthma.

Second, New Yorkers will get sick from malaria and other transmittable diseases that often take place with tropical countries and stem from mosquitoes. Third, this local sea level will increase everywhere. It results in a deluge in this area.

Finally, it will cause storm waves in the sea. As a result, New Yorkers s’ properties will be ruined. The government has to pay a lot of money to improve public properties.

In conclusion, temperatures have increased every year in New York. It results in an environment, a government and New Yorkers.

In my opinion, New York is similar to big cities in the world, including Thailand in that it is full of environmental problems. In my country, I find that high temperatures cause respiratory diseases, especially for children who often get asthma as in New York. The government has to pay a lot of money to campaign so that every family knows to protect their children from asthma.

In addition, most children in Thailand who live in rural areas often get malaria. It is different from New York. Every year, many children die from this disease, while this disease has never left my country. I think it is very difficult to solve this problem, but both government and people need to help to reduce this problem and it is better than not doing anything.

Another problem is that increasing sea level results in flood in several areas, especially people who live near rivers and seas or places which are lower than the sea level. I think most people in Thailand are poor. Then this situation results in many poor people, and the government experienced many problems to find funding to help those people. Another kind of help from the Red Cross department is that they have a campaign for everyone to help victims by donating both money and a lot of something instead of lending this money to develop other parts of the country.

I think it is everyone's function to help to protect those environments by not burn either fossil fuels or other substances. In addition, people should not ruin forests, but must keep a balance of nature. If everyone cooperated, the result would e that the government should have policies that support people not to ruin forests, such as a policy that supports people cultivating a lot of trees and they should have serious punishment laws about punishing people who ruin forests and environments.

In short, I think both the goverment and people should cooperate to solve those problems.

Whyte,A.(Aug.17,1999). They liked to sit or stand long without movement of body. As a result their body has greater risks to occur illnesses, however at present people turn to be interested in exercise more. In Seal Bernard ‘adolescence’ he states the exercise is a necessary activity for health and it is popular at present because people recognize that good health helps them to live without diseases and have long life, but people usually do not maintain exercise routines regularly. Especially, aerobic exercise helps people to increase oxygen constantly. According to Seal, exercise helps people strengthen both body and mind. Many Advantages of exercise area follow: first, it helps people reduce the risk of heart disease and other diseases because people’s hearts are strengthened. Second, it helps overweight people lose weight. Third, it helps people relieve depression; therefore people will have better good mind without stress. At present, psychologists are trying to invent various equipments and exercise programs for helping people who want to exercise to get more convenience and to encourage them to keep exercising. In conclusion, people should exercise regularly for strong body and a great mind for they live longer.

Reaction
In my opinion, exercise is an activity that people should do routinely at least 30 minutes a day. For example, from my experience, usually, I was often sick until my brother suggested that exercise everyday, after that I felt that my body was stronger. My several sick symptoms were reduced very much. Another example is that when I came to U.S.A. I had to study hard and I got migraines. I got headaches all time for about two weeks. I solved this problem by exercise. Surprisingly, I was able to reduce this sick symptom by exercise. I think a good exercise helps people have a good mind and body. In addition, I think if people have a good body, it results in decreasing government’s expenditure about taking of care sick people in hospitals. In conclusion, people should be interested in this activity because it helps them have a good body, a good mind, and saves money in hospital fees. In other words, it helps people prevent for themselves.

What is stree?

Stress is an emotional or physical reaction to demanding events or stimuli. In addition, stressors are event or stimulus that causes stress. Sorts of stressor have a lot such as hurricanes or tornadoes, major life events and daily hassles. Hans Seyle, the Canadian physiologist, was a researcher who researched and proposed about the general adaptation syndrome. She divided steps of them as following; the first stage, the alarm reaction is that the person or animal event recognized the stressor. Next to, the stage of resistance is that the organism tries to adapt to the stressful event to escape from it. If it is successful, we return to normal. Finally, stressful event that we can’t adapt to escape from it, results in exhaustion or collapse. From Seyle’s research found that in humans, the reaction of stress was various and depended on each person and each event. For example of stress that occur with person, for some students, being called upon to give a talk in front of a class, feel their pounding heart and a dry mouth. In short, in humans, stress reactions vary greatly such as fearing, angering, helplessness and depression.

The teacher’s day

Do you have an idea whether you should thank your teachers on a special day or not.?
In 1956 Prime Minister Field Marshal P. Pibulsongkram proposed that teachers were student’s benefactors and persons who gave light to student’s life. The fundamental idea is teachers are regarded as a second parent for Thai students. They are behind many students’ success. Then teachers should have a day of their own so that their students would get an opportunity to pay respect and to express a gratitude to the teachers. Thus, the Cabinet passed a resolution to announce January 16 of every year as (a) Teachers’ day and it was celebrated for the first time on January 16, 1957. The event has been held since then and is cerebrated nationwide. The highlights of the day include religious activities, a ceremony of paying respect to teachers and activities to strengthen unity among teachers.
First, activities are religious after the monk gives his sermon, teachers and students clasped their hands together in a respectful way after the monk walked. As he passed the sitting students, they made a respect in the proper way to show the highest respect to monks by bringing their head right down to the floor.
Second, a ceremony of paying respect to teachers, every student came to school with a bunch of flowers for their teachers. The whole school took part in on this auspicious day from the elementary to high school. The elementary students are holding a bunch of flowers for their teachers. Three incense sticks and a candle are together with the flowers. Prayers were read by teachers and senior students. Then everyone took a vow to be loyal to their nation, religion and King of Thailand, to be good pupils, to behave themselves and to obey the school rules after the students came forward in rows to present their flowers to the teachers.
Finally, activities are to strengthen unity among teachers. The principal gave awards to teachers who have a great result of work that year. Awarded teachers receive a certificate and give a speech to school community. Pictures are taken, and colleagues are invited to say something about awarded teachers.
In conclusion, teacher’s day is held to remember teacher’s significance. Many activities are held to show how this auspicious day is. Thai people still have a positive to the teachers who make a great sacrifice and do good deeds for the benefit of the nation and the people as a whole.
